Grazed from Midsize Insider. Author: Amanda Kondolojy. When you think of high cloud energy consumption, the image of the crowded and stuffy data center likely comes to mind. However, new research from AT&T's Bell Labs and the University of Melbourne has revealed that traditional data centers only account for 9 percent of the cloud's overall energy consumption, which is in stark contrast to conventional wisdom and the push by some environmental groups to minimize data centers because of their energy consumption. The enthusiastic uptake of smartphones and tablets by the Australian public has put huge pressure on corporate IT departments to allow these devices to be used in the corporate environment and BYOD - bring your own device - has gone from being barely tolerated to generally accepted, in part because the technologies for securing and managing them have improved... |

The firm predicts that SaaS will rake in $92.8 billion by 2016, up from just $21.2 billion in 2011. Driving the trend is increasing demand for mobile SaaS -- SaaS applications that companies access via smartphones and other wireless devices.
